Chapter Twenty-One: Camp Inca - Clandestine Night Out

No one came to interrogate Julienne and a guard said the Mama Lucha was sent to Guayaquil. What a relief!

The day of the Queen Contest was getting closer, but Julienne’s fittings and obligations were done. To pass the time one afternoon, she joined a few of the inmates in a card game and sat next to Crystal. During the game they talked about tattoos and piercings. “I had my belly button pierced when I was a teenager,” Julienne said, “but I let it close up. What about you?”

“I don’t have anything pierced except my ears,” Crystal said.

“Hey, I’ve got an idea,” Julienne said. “Let’s pierce our belly buttons.”

“Great idea! Do you have a needle?”

“Not for that,” Julienne said. “I have two really small ones.”

“I’ll find one and meet you in your room.”

When she showed Julienne the needle, she told her she went to someone who did embroidery and got it from her.

“Whoa…it’s really thick. That’s going to hurt,” Julienne said.

“I’ll do you first,” Crystal said.

“Uh…how about if I do yours first?” Julienne insisted. She took a marker pen and drew dots on her belly button where the piercing would go. “You’d better lie down on the mattress so I can get this right.” She started pushing the needle through with string on it.

Crystal screamed.

“Of course it hurts! Be quiet or someone might wonder what’s going on in here.” She took a pillow and put it over Crystal’s face to muffle the screams.

When she finished, they walked down the hall to a mirror in the shower area. “Now I need a bikini,” Crystal said, admiring her image. “When it heals. Okay, now it’s your turn.”

Back in Juleinne’s room, they went through the process again. Crystal handed her a pillow for the screams of pain, then straddled her, and started pushing the needle through.

“Do it faster!” Julienne yelled into the pillow. “Get it over with.”

“I’m trying,” Crystal said.

A guard stepped into the doorway and said, “What the heck is going on in here? Get off her!”

Julienne lifted the pillow off her face. Crystal popped the needle through the other side and Julienne screamed.

The guard stared at them. “What the…?”

“Can’t you see we’re busy?” Julienne yelled. “I’m getting my belly button pierced.”

The guard shook her head and left the room mumbling.

In spite of the pain she felt, Julienne burst out laughing. “Can you imagine what she thought?” Her laughing escalated into hysterics and tears came to her eyes. “Whew!” she said. “What a tension reliever.” She looked down at her belly button and groaned. “It hurts so bad. I hope it doesn’t get infected.”

Lucia approached Julienne about the Queen Contest the next day.

“Some high diplomats and cabinet members are going to be here,” Lucia said. “Smile a lot and use your feminine wiles.”

“You mean flirt with them?”

“Just be yourself,” she said. “I doubt you’ve ever had trouble getting guys.” She gave a flirtatious smile. “These are the men in authority who can make things happen.
